New civil pay scales

New pay scales of civil servants have been announced earlier and the basic salary increment has been put into place from July this year. It covers civil servants as well as armed forces members. Although effective from July, the new scaled salaries would be available to the public passing a circular, only as early as November.

An additional Tk 15,904 crore is needed to be raised for the basic salary and extra Tk 23,828 crore for upgraded bonus and increment scales, the latter being effective from July 2016. Benefiting the lowest scale with highest proportion of 101%, it is still under ten thousand taka, while the highest scale rose 95% (nearly double) to Tk 78,000.

However, with universal upgrades to all 20 scales, everyone will be incremented every July, instead of joining date consideration. Increments of 5% of basic for the sixth to the 20th grade, 4.5% for the fifth, 4% for the third and fourth and 3.75% for the second, will be in place.

With a special bonus for Bangla Nababarsha added to the festival bonuses, Army and Navy chiefs having the same upgraded ranks and basics, abolishment of job classification in favor of pay grades, changes in the allowance system, the pay structure has been considerably altered to benefit public servants without any pressure to the government, justifying equity in matters of society.
