70pc users spend more than an hour on social media: study

The vast world of social media is an infinite prospect for research. A fertile ground for social media in Bangladesh, businesses and investors are keen to learn the clockwork of this online space. In a recent survey, a Chinese mobile internet company took on local people's habits on online socializing. UCWeb, found that 70% of the 7,395 respondents spend more than 1 hour daily on social media. Of those, 23% spend more than 5 hours a day!

Of those surveyed, 85% used Facebook and its Messenger service. Other chat apps being used are Whatsapp 36.2%, Viber (29%), Skype (19.4%), Tango (6.7%). Three quarters of the respondants expressed a positive return in their social life from social networking online. Although over half of the entire sample had over 300 friends, 37% of them still haven't met a person that they have connected to online.

Bangladesh with its 53.94 million active internet connections and almost the entire segment using mobile internet, has 18 million active Facebook accounts. It is gaining popularity further very fast, for which UCWeb has labelled Bangladesh as a "social" nation. If a Chinese research can find the importance of Bangladesh's active social life, which they will surely devise strategies for business exploits, Bangladesh itself will surely respect the business processes arising out of social networking, which is on a rapid rise.
